Network Test (Nettest) for older systems

If your system is Version 4 or older, the following instructions are for performing a Nettest for one unit at a time.  You can determine the version of your system by checking the LCD of your unit and look for  revision number on Main menu. If the revision number is "Rev. 4x.xx.xxxx or 2xxx.xxxx", your system is Version 4 or older.

The step by step instructions refer to a LoadTrac II unit with a node ID 65; however, the same instructions will apply for FlowTrac II, ShearTrac II, ShearTrac III, or LoadTrac III, depending on which unit you are testing.

  • Download nettest.zip folder on your computer (any location will do).
  • Extract the file 'nettest.exe'.
  • Connect the network cable from the PC directly to your unit and put a terminator on the second network portof the LoadTrac-II (Do not have any other units connected on the network).
  • Open up your command prompt (under Programs>Accessories).  Be sure the path matches the path where you saved the nettest program.  For example, if you saved the nettest program under C:\Documents and Settings\lsys\Geocomp,  type in ‘C:’ and press enter.  Next, type in ‘cd Geocomp’ and hit enter (See the figure below).

  • On the command prompt, type in “nettest 0 65” where 65 represents the node ID for the LoadTrac II you have connected to the PC.

Please take into account ShearTrac has two NODE ID's, one for vertical motor and one for horizontal motor. In case you are checking the network for a ShearTrac II you should run this test twice, once per each NODE ID.

Generally the Node IDs on the ShearTracs are 101 and 102.

  • Press Enter.  You should see a whole bunch of numbers reading every second or so in several columns. Run this test for about 30 minutes, then click on esc button from the command prompt to stop the test.
  • The screen above shows a good test where the very last column should be all zeros.
  • Repeat this procedure for all other units in your testing station.  You want to test each unit individually typing in the command: “nettest 0 X” where X represents the node ID for the unit.  Please make sure to connect only one unit at a time to the network with a terminator on the same unit.
  • If the last is not zero, it means that the communication between your computer and testing station is lost.
  • Check each solution article below and make sure to address each one in the order listed below.

Network & Drivers - II: Unit Connection (Daisy Chain)

Network & Drivers - III: Wrong Node ID

Network & Drivers - IV: Computer Sleep Mode

Network & Drivers - V: Uninstall, Delete, and Reinstall Drivers

  • Please repeat the Nettest after you address the solution articles.
