UNIT NETWORK CONNECTION – DAISY CHAIN
This article explains how to connect multiple GeoComp Lab Systems units. Same information can also be found in the attached document.
In your testing station, you can daisy chain up to five units to be controlled by one computer.
*Please note ShearTrac machines have two controls; one is vertical and one is horizontal and thus one ShearTrac accounts for two units.
If your testing station includes more than five units, we recommend dividing the station by test type and assign separate computers.
Here are the key steps on how to complete network for more than one unit:
· Please make sure the GeoNet card, which was supplied to you with your system, is already connected to the computer. In you need instructions on how to install the card, please refer to the article called “Network Card and Driver Installation”.
· Below figure shows how units get connected using network cables and terminator.
*WARNING: The network cable looks like a phone cable, but it is not. Please do not use a regular phone cable. The system warrantee is voided if anything other than the supplied cable is used.
As shown in the figure below:
· In order to complete the network, the number of network cables you need is the same as the number of units you need to daisy chain.
In the figure below, two units are shown connected with two network cables.
· First cable connects the computer to the first unit (ID 65 in the figure).
One end of the network cable should be connected to the slot on the GeoNet card inside your computer.
*WARNING: You will only use one of the ports on the GeoNet card.
· The second cable connects the first unit (ID 65 in the figure) to second unit (Unit 68 in the figure).
· Terminator (short cable with black heat-shrink end) is connected to the last unit (Unit 68 in the figure).
*WARNING: Please do not forget to connect the terminator.
